A success story of Shabnam (Saved from early marriage)

Child marriage is a gross human rights violation that puts young girls at risk and keeps them mired in poverty. Unfortunately, this problem is more prevalent than you might think in rural areas of Sindh

“I don’t want to get married in the moment,” Shabnam Memon said to female social mobilizer Miss Aneeta during the visit of We Care Foundation at village  council Bello taluka Sujawal district Sujawal

Shabnam 12 years old girl, due to her father forbid couldn’t get an education or any skill in handicrafts. Her mother gets suicide after the continuous domestic violence of her husband Mr. Nizam, who is the peon of the primary school Bello. When Shabnam’s mother get suicide she was 6 years old.

Shabnam’s father get second marriage and Shabnam use to do housework in childhood, now she is 12 years old and his father has decided to make her marriage with a relative in the coming month July 2022, but as Shabnam listened she came and cried to social mobilizer Ms. Aneeta at meeting with women “You don’t worry in the government of Pakistan law you have all rights to take decisions and for this matter, I will discuss with your parents”.

WCF team met with Muzafar Memon at his home place,  with s Shabnam and all family members discussed shabnam marriage. 

“I motivate to Mr Muzafar Memon , that Shabnam is not able to get marriage, because she don’t have knowledge about marriage life and at this age if she will become mother so how she will care the children while she is a girl and in result she will become ill and soon looked aged women “  Aneeta Social Mobilizer.

WCF team also inform to  Mr: Muzafar ” In  domestic life there are so many matters, Shabnam is a girl so she couldn’t handle other hand she is illiterate & don’ t have any skill domestic level for livelihood. This is learning age not marriage age in the law of Pakistan a girl should be 18 years old to get marriage “.

After one week Ms Aneeta again visit the shabnam house and discuss with Mr Nizam & this time Shabanma’s father agreed happily  to postponed her marriage for 7 years, till that  Shabnam become able to get marriage. And it has bee also decide that Shabnam will join the adult literacy programme and skill development programme at WCF

Mr Muzafar Memon shows their gratitude to Raheela for this legal advice and awareness regarding problems of early marriages.

Shabnam said “I didn’t think that it will be possible to satisfy my father , some time I feel it is dream, I am very much thankful to you for saving my life and giving me chance to learn at WCF center”
