Climate Change & Community Resilience (SDG 13)

We Care Foundation is actively working to advance Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13: Climate Action, focusing on the climate-vulnerable districts of Badin, Thatta, and Sujawal in Sindh.

In response to recurring floods, extreme weather events, and environmental degradation, the Foundation implements community-based climate adaptation and resilience initiatives. These include the plantation of 3,400 trees in flood-affected and degraded areas to reduce carbon emissions, prevent soil erosion, and restore biodiversity.

We Care Foundation places strong emphasis on awareness raising and community engagement. Regular climate change awareness sessions, focus group discussions (FGDs) with community members, women, and youth, and advocacy activities are conducted to promote climate-smart practices, disaster preparedness, and sustainable use of natural resources.

Through local-level advocacy and stakeholder engagement, the Foundation works to amplify community voices and support inclusive, climate-responsive planning. We firmly believe that effective climate action requires both environmental protection and community resilience, enabling vulnerable populations to adapt, reduce risks, and secure sustainable livelihoods for the future

Our Initiatives Include:

Tree plantation drives

Climate awareness campaigns

Waste reduction education

Clean energy advocacy

Climate Change Issues in Pakistan

Pakistan is among the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, despite contributing very little to global greenhouse gas emissions. Rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events are increasingly affecting communities, livelihoods, and natural resources.

Frequent floods, droughts, and heatwaves have caused severe damage to agriculture, homes, and infrastructure, especially in rural and coastal areas. Water scarcity, glacier melting, and sea intrusion are putting additional pressure on food security and drinking water sources. Coastal districts like Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin are particularly at risk due to cyclones, salinity, and land erosion.

Climate change also threatens public health by increasing heat-related illnesses and waterborne diseases. Vulnerable groups, including women, children, and low-income communities, are the most affected.

We Care Foundation recognizes the urgent need for community-based climate action, environmental protection, and resilience-building initiatives to help people adapt and protect their future.

Mangrove Plantation & Coastal Protection

We Care Foundation has organized Mangrove Plantation and Coastal Protection activities in coastal areas of Thatta and Sujawal. The initiative focused on planting mangroves to reduce sea intrusion, coastal erosion, and cyclone damage. Local fishermen and community members were trained on the importance of mangrove ecosystems. Awareness sessions explained how mangroves support fish breeding and protect villages from storms. Volunteers participated in plantation drives along vulnerable coastal belts. The activity promoted environmental conservation and climate resilience. This effort helps safeguard both livelihoods and coastal biodiversity.

Clean Drinking Water & Rainwater Harvesting

We Care Foundation has organized clean water and rainwater harvesting activities in Badin and Sujawal. Rainwater collection systems were introduced in schools and community buildings. Communities received awareness on water conservation and safe storage methods. The program addressed saline and contaminated water issues caused by climate change. Training sessions emphasized hygiene and prevention of waterborne diseases. Local residents actively participated in installation and maintenance learning. This initiative improves water security and community health.

Climate-Smart Agriculture Training

We Care Foundation has organized climate-smart agriculture trainings for farmers in Thatta, Sujawal, and Badin. Farmers were guided on drought-resistant crops and modern irrigation methods. Sessions covered organic fertilizers and soil protection techniques. Women were encouraged to start kitchen gardening for household nutrition. Demonstrations showed how to reduce crop loss during floods and heatwaves. Agricultural experts shared adaptive farming practices. This activity strengthens food security and farmer resilience.

Women Climate Leadership Groups

We Care Foundation has organized women climate leadership groups in rural communities. Women received training on kitchen gardening and nutrition. Sessions covered disaster preparedness and household climate adaptation. Women were encouraged to lead environmental awareness in their villages. Skills for small eco-friendly income activities were introduced. Group discussions strengthened confidence and community roles. This initiative empowers women as climate resilience leaders.

Disaster Preparedness & Early Warning Training

We Care Foundation has organized disaster preparedness training in flood- and cyclone-prone areas. Communities learned evacuation planning and safety measures. First aid and emergency response sessions were conducted. Mock drills helped residents understand real-time disaster situations. Local committees were formed for early warning communication. Awareness on protecting livestock and assets was included. This activity reduces risks and improves community readiness.

Tree Plantation Drive – Thatta, Sindh

We Care Foundation organized a major Tree Plantation Drive in District Thatta, Sindh, planting 25,000 trees across public and private premises, roadsides, schools, and community spaces.

This initiative aimed to increase green cover, improve air quality, and address climate change impacts such as rising temperatures and pollution. Local volunteers, students, and community members actively participated, promoting environmental awareness and shared responsibility for plant care.

Through this effort, We Care Foundation is contributing to a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient Sindh for future generations.
